Description

Annual Conference 2017 - The Labour Party

In 2016, eight years on from the financial crisis, the average British worker was paid £1000 less in real terms than they were in 2008. With stagnating salaries and creeping inflation, real wages are set to fall by 1.1% next year. In the public sector, after seven years of a 1% pay cap, nurses are being paid 14% less in real terms than they were in 2010, and midwives have seen their real pay fall by over £3000. After years of austerity, Britain needs a pay rise. Join Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Rebecca Long-Bailey MP, and leading trade unionists to discuss the TUC’s plan for a Great Jobs Agenda.

Chair: Stephen Bush, New Statesman special correspondent

Speakers:

Rebecca Long Bailey MP - Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy

Frances O'Grady - General Secretary TUC

Tom Hadley - Director of Policy, Recruitment and Employment Confederation

Steve Turner - Assistant Secretary General, Unite the Union
