This Spring and Summer 2018 Professional Artists and Ceramicists Anna Clucas and Faye Christian will team up for a specialised event taking on a class of potters and hand builders in their own Great Manx Build up and throw down project.

This workshop is aimed to attract the interest of ceramic enthusiasts and complete beginners wanting to give the project as go and understand the development of the wonderful and functional medium of clay.

Anna and Faye will have a special guest joining them for two days during this workshop. Richard J Parker series 2 Great British throw down finalist, described as the “the Dr Who of pottery” by well renowned potter and Great pottery throw down judge Keith Brymer-Jones, will be offering some expertise in the craft to all that takes part.

During the workshops you will learn to centre and throw pots on a potters wheel. Build pots of your own shape and choice using slabs, coiling and press moulding techniques and we will look at surface decoration using sgraffito, burnishing and printmaking.

To be held at the Isle Gallery St Johns, our inviting, Zen-like atmosphere will encourage you to relax and take your mind off everyday life. There is no pressure to make the perfect pot, we want you to enjoy the experience of working with clay as you enjoy the process of artistic self-discovery.

Refreshment drinks and snacks will be supplied during all classes, but you may want to bring some lunch. There are two cafes on site also if you would prefer to take a break and sit in and eat.

Week long and 3 day taster courses available

3 Days of clay - Monday 16th April - Wednesday 18th April 10am - 2.30pm - £175 per person

Full week of clay madness - Monday 16th - 20th July - 10am - 2.30pm - £245

Along side all the building there will be alternative firing evenings held which makers can take part in one or both of our Raku or smoke firing events. Makers will be encouraged to save some bisque fired pots for these events, and you cant beat a Summer firing camp with a bottle of Prosecco.
