The Great Scouse Sewing Bee
Home Sewing Course for Beginners Returns!
Due to popular demand we have bought back our beginners course on an extra night! Want to learn something new in 2017? Want to be able to make your own garments or your kids costumes! Join in our course for a special introductory price of £99 for the full five weeks!
Every Thursday 6.30-8.30pm starting 23rd March until 20th April
Basics you will cover:
- machine threading and use
- Handsewing techniques
- Pattern cutting
- Buttons, zips, and other fastenings
- Working to a deadline and following a pattern and sequence
All sewers will leave the course with one finished garment.
Machine basics - getting familiar with threading the machine, understanding stitches and feeling confident enough to use one
Basic patterns - understanding how to choose, measure and cut your pattern resulting in a practice template (a toile)
Handsewing - different techniques as well as understanding the use of appliqué and buttons - including creating button holes on the sewing machine and sewing buttons on
Fastenings and zips - how to approach fastening your garment including Velcro, zips and press studs
Week 5 (three hours):
Alterations - taking a ready made garment and adapting it, whether shortening the hem, taking in the waist, or transforming something old into something new
Final design - Application of all skills into one finished garment
