WALK RUN OR CYCLE - OPEN TO EVERYONE!
You are invited to come and walk the lovely Greensand Way in aid of The Simon Trust - a charity raising £500,000 to help build three houses for ten severely autistic young adults in Alfold near Cranleigh.
The famous Greensand Way follows the ridge of greensand rock across Surrey and Kent to the edges of Romney Marsh and almost to the Kent coast. It is 108 miles long and we have selected four wonderful stretches amounting to 63 miles for you to walk along.
So either join us for all four days or just do one day or even walk the dog for just a couple of hours! We want the walk to be a social event, starting and finishing each day at pubs, and there will be a fun 'survivors' party at The Punchbowl Hindhead on the Sunday afternoon at 3pm - with free refreshments.
We will be inviting rambling clubs, running clubs, dog walkers, horse riders, cycle clubs and anyone who wants to join in. All are welcome, plus your dogs.
Our shortened route traverses many Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and passes through pretty villages, orchards, hop gardens, Knole House, Ide Hill, Leith Hill Tower, Pitch Hill before reaching our end goal of the beautiful National Trust Punchbowl at Hindhead for a survivor's picnic party.
Much of the walk is accessible by public transport and we would encourage car sharing to help getting around. If you would like overnight stays, then there are plenty of suitable hotels and B&B's available.
Entrants are invited to do one, some, or all of the following legs of the Greensand Way:
Stage 1: Thursday 27th April
Linton Bull Inn to Sevenoaks Knole Park – White Hart (17.4 miles)
Stage 2: Friday 28th April
Sevenoaks White Hart to Tandridge Barley Mow (16 miles)
Stage 3: Saturday 29th April
Westcott Prince of Wales to Hascombe White Horse (17.5 miles)
Stage 4: Sunday 30th April
Hascombe White Horse to Hindhead Punchbowl (11.5 miles)
Primarily this is an opportunity to see some lovely English countryside.
Do whichever stages you wish, and you may want to do only part of the day. Saturday and Sunday will obviously be the busier days.
Picnic party at The Punchbowl on Sunday afternoon at 3pm. Try and get there by then. There will be FREE refreshments and there is the Punchbowl coffee shop as well.
Accommodation. If you want to stay overnight, please book your own B&Bs.
Various pubs on route will be warned of the Scramble and will make you welcome. The route has been chosen so that there are pubs at the start and finish of each day.
Please try and start walking as early as you can in the morning. 9am is the suggested meeting time, but start walking as and when you please.
Cyclists are welcome, but please note some parts of the footpath are not suitable for cyclists. You will have to bypass these as best you can. Horses are also welcome, but please keep to bridleways.
The Greensand Way is well marked, but we suggest you buy an OS map or Google Surrey County Council / Greensand Way for their maps (which are very good).
Runners. There will be a start at 12.00 midday on Sunday at Hascombe White Horse with 11.5 miles of glorious Surrey countryside to enjoy, ending at the Hindhead Punchbowl. Water stations en route are to be confirmed nearer the time.
The following micro breweries will be asked to sponsor and support the event along the Way: Musket, Rockin’ Robin, Goachers, Swan, Westerham, Godstone, Antoine’s, Surrey Hills, Tillingbourne and Hog’s Back.
The Simon Trust. All ticket proceeds will go to The Simon Trust. The Entrance fee is £10 (+ a small booking fee) for however much of the Scramble you choose to do.
Sponsorship from your friends and families is very welcome. Please use Virgin Giving - Greensand Scramble.
Entrants. There is no limit to the number of entrants, and we will be contacting local running, cycling and rambling clubs. Most entrants will no doubt be walking and enjoying a good chat as they pass through spectacular Kent and Surrey scenery.
