About this event

Spirituality • Christianity

The Guards Chapel was built in the 1830s and has served as the spiritual home of the Household Division ever since. The history of this site - from its construction, the tragic destruction of the chapel during the Second World War, and its later restoration - is intertwined with the story of London itself.

The Reverend A Bennett CF, Senior Chaplain London District and Chaplain to the Household Division, will be exploring the character of the chapel today, its uses and features, as well as its heritage and legacy.

You will have the chance to view Regimental Colours dating from the 1700s to the present day, the original apse which survived the bombing and total destruction of the chapel, and other historic items and features spanning centuries.

Tours will last 20 minutes, with additional time for questions and self guided exploration of the Chapel.

This event is part of our Heritage Open Days festival: Barracks, Bombs, and Buckingham Palace.

Taking place at The Guards Museum on the 13th and 14th September, join us for a free weekend of history and culture with something for the whole family. Whether its a trip to the re-enactors camp, handling objects from our collection, or simply sitting back and enjoying the sounds of live vintage music from Lancashire Belle.
