Event description
Are you confident your employees can differentiate between a legitimate email and a targeted phishing email from a malicious attacker?

About this Event

Here at Layer 8 we strive to make the cyber security world as safe as possible both within businesses and at home. We do this by engaging employees in a conversation about security that is meaningful and helps facilitate change.

In today’s environment, social engineering attacks are prevalent and increasing. The human element is often the weakest component in a company’s security. Attackers know this and exploit it.

76% of businesses reported being a victim of a phishing attack in the last year. Technical measures are important in stopping these attacks but the strongest link remains our employees.

A common misconception about cyber attackers is they use only highly advanced tools and techniques to hack into people’s computers. This is simply not true. Cyber attackers have learnt that often the easiest way to steal your information, hack your accounts, or infect your systems is by tricking you into making a mistake. This is more commonly known as Social Engineering.

Social Engineering is the term used for a broad range of malicious activities accomplished through human interactions such as Phishing, Spear Phishing, Vishing, Whaling, Baiting and Tailgating. It uses psychological manipulation to trick users into making security mistakes or giving away sensitive information.

The Hackers’ Perspective workshop will allow attendees to understand why hackers are so successful, experience how it feels to be a victim of a scam and reveals how the hacker achieves their goal.
