Description

The Hall is a magnifiicent example of Jacobean architecture, built around 1600 by John Hall, a prominent local clothier who owned the wool mill opposite.

This lecture will explore the architectural features and significance of the Hall, in the context of Elizabethan and Jacobean architecture.

Julian Orbach is an author and lecturer in architectural history. A graduate in History and Italian from Magdalen College Oxford, Julian has worked in the field of historic buildings ever since.

He moved to Somerset in 2009 to begin a three-year revision of Nikolaus Pevsner's volume on South and West Somerset, In June 2014 he moved to beautiful Bradford on Avon, where he had lived in the 1970s, to begin the revision of the Buildings of England volume for Wiltshire. He became President of the Somerset Archaeological and Natural History Society for the year 2018-19 in May 2018.
