"4 men, 4 bikes, 60 characters, and a 2000 mile adventure." This madcap, 4-strong, all-male troupe of players are cycling to the BOS Theatre to perform Macbeth! On just four bicycles they will carry all the necessary set, props, costumes and camping equipment over 2000 miles through England, Scotland, the Netherlands and Belgium to perform Shakespeare's dark tale of ambition, magic and murder. Using bikes to power various surprises and contraptions on-stage, they play all the parts in Director James Farrell's wild 1930s indie-folk romp. When & Where
The HandleBards began because adventures are fun – we love to explore. We are four-strong troupes of cycling actors who carry with us on our bikes all of the necessary set, props and costume to perform extremely energetic, charmingly chaotic and environmentally sustainable Shakespeare plays across the globe.
For the past four years the troupe have performed shows in the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, Zimbabwe, India, Singapore, Malaysia & Myanmar. 2016 will be the biggest year yet, with not one but two troupes on the road – and four brand new shows for our 4 for 400 season (in celebration of Shakespeare’s 400 year anniversary).
2016 will see an all-female Romeo and Juliet and The Taming of the Shrew take to the stage, alongside an all-male Richard III and Much Ado About Nothing. See you there!
