THE HAPPIEST DAY IN THE LIFE OF OLLI MAKI + Philosophy Slam
Sat 8 April 2017, 19:00 – 22:00 BST
Join The School of Life for a Philosophy Slam followed by an exclusive preview of award-winning feature The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Maki released by our partners MUBI.
This is the true story of Olli Mäki, the famous Finnish boxer who had a shot at the 1962 World Featherweight title. Olli’s small town life is transformed when he is swept into national stardom and suddenly regarded as a symbol of his country. There’s only one problem: Olli's just fallen in love. This charming feature debut from Juho Kuosmanen was awarded the Un Certain Regard Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and is released by MUBI.
What's a 'Philosophy Slam?'
This is philosophy but not as you know it. Two leading philosophers will riff on whatever you want to ask about, from anteaters to zabaglione, Kim Kardashian to the colour yellow. Sometimes deadly serious, usually very funny, this event is a chance to steer a unique course through the history of ideas. TSOL faculty members and professional philosophers Mark Vernon and Robert Rowland Smith will bring you unexpected discoveries from philosophy, psychology, literature and art that might just answer what you always wanted to know.
The event takes place at Central London's largest gym, the YMCA is the UK’s leading health, fitness and education charity.
