Event description

Description

The Harbour is a Bristol charity dedicated to providing free psychotherapy for those affected by a life-threatening illness, be they the patient, a carer, loved one or recently bereaved.

Life-threatening illness has a specific emotional impact on those affected. As medical research finds more ways to deal with disease, it is now a widely accepted fact that the emotional experience of the illness plays a major part in the health and wellbeing of the patient and those close to them.

To mark The Harbour’s 25th anniversary this conference will showcase their work in this field, and share the charity’s unique knowledge and experience with other psychotherapists, counsellors, healthcare professionals, carers, academics, politicians and anyone who wants to explore further the emotional dimension of life-threatening illnesses. Invited speakers from the University of Bristol, the National Health Service and Weston Hospice Care will add insight from a range of perspectives.

The conference aims to create a unique space where knowledge about the emotional and psychological aspects of living with life-threatening diseases will be presented and discussed in a respectful environment, with both plenary presentations and smaller discussion groups.

The Harbour gratefully acknowledges the University of Bristol's Brigstow Institute which is supporting this event.
