Event description
Sue Jackson, our Blue Badge Guide, will take us round Spitalfields and tell us the story of the silk weavers who fled persecution in France.

About this Event

We will be walking through one of the most cosmopolitan areas of London, with residents ranging from affluent designers and architects, artists and writers, to the overspill from Banglatown and housing association residents, but the houses we will be looking at were built for Huguenot Master Weavers in the early 18C. These Huguenots were Protestant silk weavers, who’d come in vast numbers at the end of the 17C escaping persecution in Catholic France. We will be looking at how they lived, worshipped and worked, and how their fortunes were shaped.
