Event description

Description

Imagine that for years or even decades you thought you were a citizen living at home in the UK. Then one morning you woke up to find yourself an unwanted migrant. This is what has happened to three million EU citizens living in the UK since the Brexit referendum.

Join us to explore this not-for-profit best-selling book. A must-read collection of powerful and moving testimonies by EU citizens in the UK, Brits with EU citizens spouses/partners and Brits living in the EU. We will be joined by EU citizens who have resided in Norfolk for many years so they can personally share their experiences. We will also be joined by local political figures and the creators of this unique project in order to open the discussion about our common future.

FAQs

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

There is parking available in the Forum Library, Theatre Street "pay & display", on St Giles Street multi-storey car park and on the streets surrounding the building on "pay & display" bays. For a map of the parking available in the area you can go to this City Council page with a downloadable map.

Public transport is plentiful in the area with buses stopping in several areas within walking distance. To plan your route if coming from outside of Norwich please go here. For a map of city centre bus stops and the bus lines they serve you can go here.

Where within the building is the event held?

In the main Council Chamber which is off the main entrance accessible through the steps with the iconic lions either side. However, The building is fully accessible through the Bethel Street entrance where the customer service counters are.

For further information on the accessibility of the building please call 0344 980 3333.

What should I expect?

The venue has limited capacity and while we have provided a registering facility attendees will be welcomed in a FIRT-COME-FIRST-SERVED basis so we recommend you are prompt and arrive at 18.30 to avoid dissapointment.

On arrival there will be some videos and graphics on display while everyone gets a chance to find a seat and maybe look at the books and information available.

We will have an introduction from our host, Alan Waters, the leader of the Norwich city council and an introduction to the project by Tim Sykes, one of the editors of the book. George Szirtes, the award-winning poet who wrote the foreword for the book, will share some of his thought provoking work based on his experiences as a refugee in the UK.

The main body of the event will consist of the personal testimonies of EU nationals, some of whose testimonies are featured in the book as well as readings of some extracts of the book. This will provide an up to date picture of the experiences of EU nationals in Norfolk and what it feels like to be 'In Limbo' for so long. We will also aim to ask the invited local MPs (Clive Lewis & Chloe Smith) to share their stance on the issue and we will endevour to close the event with a "questions and answers" session. We would encourage you to ask anything that you think would help you to understand the current situation better. There is a lot of misinformation out there about the status of EU nationals in the UK and we are happy to dispel any doubts.

There will likely be press present and we will be recording the event for future educational and promotional events so if you do not wish to be recorded please let our team know so we can inform the appropriate parties.

How can I get hold of the book and where do the profits from its sale go?

The book is available in Amazon here, both in paperback and Kindle edition at a very affordable price. Any profits are used to buy more books to send to influential figures both in the UK and the EU (the In Limbo team and their supporters have already sent over 300) as well as to fund awareness-raising events such as this one.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?
