Description

The I Love Me Project Invites You To Our Unique Show: 'Disable Stereotypes of Disabilities'

The I Love Me Project supports, educates and empowers primarily young people aged 13-25 that struggle with confidence, self esteem and sense of self worth in unconventional ways.

To find out more details on who we are and why we chose to explore disability, visit: www.theilovemeproject.org/our-fashion-show

We Are Excited to Announce This Year's Theme: 'Disable Stereotypes of Disabilities'.

What is disability? What does it look like? What does it mean?

We aim to shine a light on the issues that affect those with visible/invisible disabilities and provide a platform for them to be not only celebrated but understood.

The show will feature a diverse range of disabled and non-disabled designers, models, make-up artists, speakers and performers with the aims to empower the disabled community and encourage the assimilation of various abilities.

You will learn what challenges and adversities our designers and models have faced in the fashion industry and get an intimate look into fashion and beauty from their perspectives and how they feel society perceives them.

Our Star Keynote Speakers Include:

  • Sian Green-Lord, a fashion buying graduate who will be sharing her powerful story of adjusting to life as a new amputee and her journey of self love and self accpetance.

  • Jonny Simpson, an award winning physique athlete and model living with cystic fibrosis who wants to spread awareness about his condition and how it hasn't stopped him from achieving his goals.

Our Electirc Line Up of Entertainers Include:

  • Contemparary Dancer: Tihanna Richards

  • Versatile Street Dancer: Ashton Rhodes

  • Self Taught Violinist: Alexander Black

This show is the first of its kind with 500 guest expected to attend. You are guaranteed to leave the show inspired, empowered and informed.

Debbie Tinsley, Public Engagement Officer at #DMUlocal, said:

“The I Love Me fashion show is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to celebrate the diversity that makes this city great.

"It’s really important that as a community, we dispel the misinformed stereotypes that surround disability and showcasing disabled people as role models is a great way to do that.

“As a university committed to creating an inclusive environment for students, staff and the public, we are only too pleased to support this event.”

Tickets to the event are £5 with all proceeds going towards further supporting The I Love Me Project.

Doors open at 6:30 pm. Event starts at 7pm.

Drinks will be available for purchase at the bar.
