About this event

Our 2025 webinar series on Religious, non-religious and cultural perspectives on end-of-life and funeral care continues with a discussion about the impact that culture has on end of life care and funerary practice and rituals. Culture is considered as distict from religion and spirituality.

This series will provide care homes, community groups, palliative care nurses, and other professionals with a deeper understanding of culture and diverse spiritual and religious views around death, dying, and funeral practices - and what this means for their practice, and for the people they support.

The session would involve a short presentation (around 40 minutes) about the Humanist perspective on end-of-life care and funeral customs, followed by a Q&A session.

The webinar is hosted by Sarah Jones, founder of Full Circle Funerals and our guest speaker is Dr Julie Rugg of University of York.

Dr Julie Rugg is a Reader in Social Policy at the University of York, and has a particular interest in funeral practices. She edits the book series Death and Funeral Practices for Routledge. Each book in the series explores legislative, economic and social responses to mortality in a different country.
