The Impact of Outside on Client Presentation

Eco TA Workshop 3: Thursday 23rd May 2024 18.00 until 20.00 BST

Workshop Outline

Different landscapes evoke a different construct of self in each of us. From feeling our best selves on a summer’s day at the park, or our most calm by water, we all carry a narrative of who we are in these different places. Holding space for an ecological perspective can add many positives to sense of self, and also touch more deeply on painful unconscious material.

In the fourth workshop in this series, we will be exploring how we might account for variations on expected indoor client presentations whilst working outside, and holding space to consider intersectional implications which may need accounting.

Who is it aimed at?

Trainees and practitioners in practice, or nearing starting practice, who want to include ecological considerations within their work.

Aims

  • To provide participants with an intersectional consideration of the privileged and oppression which may be stimulated in different clients in different landscapes
  • To create space to explore our assumptions of client presentations and challenge thinking about the influence an outdoor space might bring

Learning Objectives

Participants should

  • Be able to consider how outdoor working may impact client presentations and the nature of therapeutic work outdoors as potentially different to indoors
  • Be able to consider how different parts of identity have different relationships with different landscapes

Facilitator

Rebecca Elston (She/Her) CTA, MSc, UKCP Reg

Rebecca is an indoor and outdoor psychotherapist and eco-therapist. She has an interest in exploring the constructs under which people come to be who they are, from both an interpersonal and ecological perspective.

She has been an active member of the Eco TA community since the first cohort in 2020 and was published in the TAJ in January 2023 with an article about script development within an ecological frame.

Fee

This is the fourth in a series of two-hour Eco TA workshops throughout May 2024.

£10 per workshop. Book all 5 and receive the 5th one Free.
