Event description
Join us for an evening of first rate theatre in a gorgeous, outdoor location as we welcome back the ever popular Handlebards to Riverhill.

About this event

Slapstick Picnic would like to cordially invite you to its inaugural summer tea party, where marvellous feats of performance and culinary capers await. Over tea and cucumber sandwiches, we ask that you prepare to witness the impossible - the entirety of Oscar Wilde’s classic play of manners, affairs and handbags being performed by just two rather dashing entertainers.

From the creators of The HandleBards comes a fantastically wild(e) new production, ripping up the recipe book and celebrating silliness. With Slapstick Picnic, you can have your cake and eat it.

This is an outdoor production, so please bring your own chair or blanket to sit on, a picnic to dig into, and dress for the weather!

Our gorgeous Walled Garden, with its ampitheatre style terraces, is the perfect setting for some theatre under the stars. Usually the terraces are roped off to visitors, but on theatre nights you get to enjoy the wonderful views as you picnic in style with friends and family before settling down under a cosy rug to enjoy first class theatre. The perfect combination!

We open the Walled Garden at 4:00pm for you to choose a spot and enjoy your picnic. We recommend that you bring a rug to sit on, and chairs are also permitted.  We also suggest bringing warm layers and a rug as the evening draws in. You are most welcome to bring picnics and alcohol. We will be offering Wine, Sparkling Wine, Beer, ice cream and other refreshments during the evening.

Early Bird tickets will be available until two months before the performance date. Please note there are limited quantities of Early Bird tickets.

Will tickets be available to purchase on the door ?

What should I bring to the event?

Seating for the event is on the grassy terraces in our Walled Garden, so we recommend you bring a blanket to sit on. You may also bring chairs if you wish. As this is an outdoor event you should bring an extra layer of clothing as the air is likely to get chilly as the evening continues. Blankets are also a good idea. You should also consider checking the weather forecast in advance, and bringing an umbrella and waterproofs in the event of rain.

Due to the gradient of the path from the car park, we advise you to wear flat shoes. High heels are not suitable for this event.

You are welcome to bring a picnic to the event, including alcohol.  Our Event Bar will be selling a selection of wine, sparkling wines, local ales & Pimm's as well as tea, coffee and ice creams.

Is seating reserved?

No, seating is on the grassy terraces of the Walled Garden and is not reserved. The Walled Garden will be open from 4:00pm for guests to take their places on their own blankets or chairs.

Please bring either a print out of your email confirmation, or be prepared to show the email on your mobile device.

What happens if it rains?

If light showers are forecast the performance will continue. Please do check the weather forecast in advance, and remember to bring your umbrellas and waterproofs if required.

Performances are only cancelled in storm conditions. In the unfortunate event that a performance does need to be cancelled due to weather conditions, the decision will be made 30 minutes before curtain up. An announcement will be made to the audience within The Walled Garden and on Facebook.

What is the refund policy?

Unfortunately tickets are non-refundable.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
