About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

Earth is experiencing unprecedented environmental challenges that impact human health and well-being, but despite mountains of scientific evidence and endless news reports of severe flooding, devastating wildfires, species extinctions and suffocating air pollution, politicians and leaders continue to ignore the signs. Science alone is not enough – we need to know how to convey messages and knowledge to the right people and move them to make lasting and meaningful change.

Skating Panda, a global creative, social and environmental impact consultancy, are at the forefront of actioning this change. Working with individuals, agencies and research groups who are building the evidence of the dangers associated with Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), including the UK’s Special Envoy on AMR, Professor Dame Sally Davies, they have now become part of CLIMAR – Climate change and Antimicrobial Resistance through a Planetary Health Lens. This 4-year project, funded by the UK Biotechnology and Biological Science Research Council (BBSRC), will highlight how AMR is both driven by and a driver of the degradation of the Planetary Boundaries. Intersecting with these boundaries are the threads of the Planetary Health Education Framework: around the central theme of Humans in Nature, three of these threads – Equity and Social Justice, Health in the Anthropocene, and Systems Thinking and Complexity – highlight the challenges of life in destabilized natural systems. A fourth – Movement Building and Systems Change – is a solution and a way forward but needs clear and targeted communication.

In this webinar, Dr Jennifer Cole, Co-Director of the CLIMAR Network and member of the Planetary Health Roadmap Working Group, interviews Andrea Hartley, Founder and CEO of Skating Panda. They will discuss Skating Panda’s work and vision in the AMR field, with One Health communications and CLIMAR, and how engaging with communications professionals early increases impact and ensures evidence is turned into action.
