Description

The NDG James inaugural lecture

Forest genetics: a key to the future health of trees and forests

by Professor John Mackay, Wood Professor of Forest Science, Oxford University

Tuesday 24 October 2017

Corpus Christi College, Oxford

Synopsis

Our trees and woods are threatened by climate change and the increasing number and severity of pests and diseases, such as ash dieback. Professor Mackay will explain in a way that is accessible to the layman, how the science of genomics is breaking new ground in the quest to address this challenge. He will demonstrate how genomics is being applied to improve the resilience of our trees and woods to diseases currently threatening UK woodlands and how the science of genomics links to other research initiatives intended to improve tree health and productivity.

This lecture is for anybody who has an interest in the health of our trees and woods, including woodland owners and managers, ecologists, students, researchers and academics. There are a limited number of tickets so it is advised to book early.
