About this event

About this Event

In this workshop, we'll be looking back at the history of the Garnock Connections project area through the eyes of historical and fictional characters associated with the region. Some are mythical, some are legendary and others are 100% real.

The Garnock Connections project area covers a large part of North Ayrshire and the adjacent counties. This talk is open to anyone with an interest in the history and archaeology of the region.

What happens if I can't make it?

That's fine! We understand people lead busy lives, so we'll be recording the Zoom meeting and we can send it out to you to catch up at your leisure. Just register for a 'Recording Only' ticket.

What to expect

North Ayrshire's history is rich with myths, legends and true tales about amazing people. In this talk we'll share some of our favourites with you, and show you where we found our information so you'll understand how you could do your own research in the future, you might even want to help us create a heritage trail based on your favourite people from North Ayrshire.

Why we’re running this event

This talk is part of our series for Garnock Connections. Garnock Connections is a landscape partnership, and aims to protect and promote the incredible natural, cultural and historical landscape in North Ayrshire. With the Garnock River at its heart, our aim is to enhance and reveal the beauty and history surrounding it for everyone in the region to enjoy.

This workshop will be run online by DigVentures as part of the Garnock Connections project, and is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

What’s next?

This online class is open to everyone in the Ayrshire and Renfrewshire region who wants to learn the basics of doing local history research. We will be focussing on sites within the Garnock Connections project area. If you love it, you can sign up to for more!

This is just one talk in a series of online classes designed to help you learn about, enjoy and contribute to the Garnock Valley landscape. You can catch up with previous classes via our project website, and sign up to our mailing list to hear about upcoming events.

Hopefully, we’ll eventually be able to organise some outdoor heritage events for you to be part of too!
