Event description

Description

Who should attend?

Proprietors, headteachers, senior management, governors or trustees of independent schools inspected by Ofsted.

Background

During the registration of an Independent School the DfE asks the proprietor to demonstrate how the Independent School Standards (ISS) will be met. After registration the DfE commissions Ofsted to check, during inspection, that schools comply with the ISS. The aim of the ISS is to ensure the welfare, health, safety, academic and personal development of pupils in Independent Schools. As school leaders I am sure we all share this aim however it is apparent that fewer and fewer Independent Schools comply with the ISS.

Why should you attend?

According to the latest Ofsted statistics* -The percentage of standard inspections where schols met all the requirements of the ISS has decreased from 74% in 2014/2015 to 66% in 2016/17. Failure to meet the ISS tops the list of reasons given by Ofsted for the decline in the proportion of schools judged good or outstanding during inspection.

Failing to comply with the ISS does not only result in poor Ofsted grades or eventual school closure - it is a demonstration that as school leaders we have failed to ensure the welfare, health, safety, academic and personal development of our pupils. Bearing this in mind does your school comply with the Independent School Standards? Have you thoroughly checked to make sure that the requirements of each paragraph of the 34 standards is met?

During this workshop you will:

  • identify how the ISS support your educational vision for the school
  • check how well your school meets some of the ISS using real information from your school
  • be given a tool to help you conduct a thorough audit of the extent to which your school meets all of the Independent School Standards
  • network with leaders of other independent schools and share good practice

Join us at Vancouver House, 111 Hagley Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, B6 8LB on the 23rd of February 2018 and take the first step to ensuring that your school complies with the Independent School Standards.
