The internet of things: why your home will be the first to succumb

On July 5, Andy Stanford-Clark will be explaining just why the Internet of Things is more than vendor driven hype - much, much more.

Andy’s day job is at IBM’s research labs at Hursley Park, where he is a master inventor and distinguished engineer for the internet of things, and he works on projects spanning energy efficiency and home automation. His extra-curricular activities include being a visiting professor at Newcastle University and sitting on the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council peer review board, and hacking the Isle of Wight Ferry service to ease his daily commute.

If you’re wondering what the internet of things means for your job, for your home, for society in general, and the Isle of Wight ferry service, you really need to join us on July 5.

We’ll be returning to the Yorkshire Grey on Theobalds Road, London, where the doors open at 6pm, with the talk proper kicking off at 7pm.

The format remains unchanged meaning our speaker will give you a 40 minute dive into the topic at hand, with at least the same amount of time for questions. After a suitable break for refreshments of course. And there’ll be plenty of time to quiz our speakers after the main talk, and to connect with your fellow Reg readers before and after.
