Regarded by many as the one party not to be missed during the festive period - and in austere years past the only market data party around - the legendary IPUG Christmas Party will once again be held at Balls Brothers Austin Friars (formerly "The Gallery"), 10-11 Austin Friars, London, EC2N 2HG on Wednesday 30th November 2016 from 6pm until midnight.
All profits from the party will be going to our two new charities for this year:
London Magical Taxi Tour 2017
One of London's most unique charity events takes place each year when a convoy of licensed London taxis take over 200 children, suffering from a range of chronic debilitating illnesses and life limiting conditions, on a three-day trip of a lifetime to Disneyland Resort Paris®. This Magical Taxi Tour has bought moments of great joy and happiness to sick children.
This amazing convoy, can be over three miles long when running and consists of 90 plus taxis, City of London Police escorts, Gendarmerie Nationale, London Ambulance NHS Trust vehicles and AA breakdown trucks.
Organised annually, by the Worshipful Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers, this event is only possible with the help of sponsors who generously give toward the £1,400 per taxi necessary to meet the expenses of hotel, fuel, food, admission charges etc. The taxi drivers naturally give freely of their time and use of their vehicles.
The next trip will be 6th to 8th October 2017 and IPUG are hoping to sponsor at least one whole taxi.
71st annual Edinburgh Taxi Trade Children’s Outing
Since 1946, every year on the second Tuesday in June, Edinburgh’s taxi drivers take time off to treat some very special children to a day at the seaside.
All the taxis leave from Murrayfield at around 10am and make their way down the Royal Mile, along London Road, through Portobello and arriving in Musselburgh at around 11.30am. From there the taxis head out along the coast road, through Cockenzie, Port Seton and Gullane, and finally ending up at Dirleton where they enjoy the rest of their day.
Drivers take time out of their normal working day to decorate their taxis with balloons, streamers and anything else they can get their hands on. A competition is held every year for the best dressed taxi and there have been some incredible creations in previous years such as Postman Pat, a Bi-Plane, Cow and even an Elephant.
Kids and drivers are encouraged to carry as much water as possible. Bystanders minding their own business might get a shock as the kids are all armed with water pistols and balloons. It’s not only the public who need to watch out as the occasional escorting police officer usually gets caught out.
IPUG are in discussions with the organisers to determine exactly how we can support them in June.
The Party & Fundraising Evening
There will be a glass of prosecco when you arrrive, a sponsored bar until close and multiple servings of a Christmas buffet, as well as late night snacks of bacon sandwiches, sausage sandwiches and veggie sandwiches to send you on your way home and save you filling up at Liverpool St. Burger King (which we both know you'll just leave on the tube or train when you fall asleep anyway).
The venues in-house DJ will be supplying the sounds when the dance floor opens after the prize raffle; and there will be Routlette and Black Jack tables on the mezzanine sponsored by Thomson Reuters, and the grey room on the ground floor will have Texas Hold 'Em and a second Black Jack table sponsored by MDSL.
Drinks will be available from the sponsored bar in exchange for vouchers, three of which will be issued when you arrive with a valid ticket. Venue doors will open at 6pm, the bar will close just before midnight and the venue will close shortly after. Just like the Summer Garden Party, we will also have a professional photographer going around taking group photos, individual shots etc. which will all be posted on the IPUG website in the week or so after the party.
The IPUG Christmas Party and Charity Fundraiser is this year generously sponsored by:
Premier Sponsors: Thomson Reuters and MDSL.
Sponsors: Vela Trading Technologies, Ropnoy, Fenics MarketData, and Tullett Prebon Information.
