Event description

Description

Irish people have been settling in London since the 18th century and over time the area of North Islington, specifically around Archway, has become one of the largest Irish communities this side of the Irish Sea.

On this 90-minute stroll we will travel back in time to talk about poverty, politics, navvies and nurses, and we'll see where the people lived, worked, prayed, relaxed and partied.

We will start and finish close to Archway tube station. The specific meeting point will be on your booking confirmation and ticket which will be emailed to you after payment/registration.

FAQs

Are there ID or minimum age requirements for this tour?

There is no minimum age – children aged 5 or younger are welcome at no charge.
However, please note that all other children up to age 15 must be accompanied by an adult – one child per paying adult.

Where exactly does this tour start?

Details of the exact meeting point will be on your booking confirmation and ticket which will be sent via email.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Please don't waste time and resources printing out your ticket.
I will have a list of attendees on the day, although it would be wise to make a note of your booking reference

Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?

As you can appreciate, transfers/reassignments do not apply to those who just do not show up.

However, in cases of illness or unforseen circumstances I will be happy to transfer your booking to another of my walks on another date as long as you let me know at least two hours before your booked walk is due to start.

Alternatively ... perhaps you might be able to offer your ticket to a friend ... please see the next question...

Is it OK if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

This is fine – just email/text me the name of the person who will be taking your place.

Is this tour suitable for wheelchairs?

The walk will be mostly on standard pavements and should not pose any problems further to those experienced on an average high street.

Jane ParkerMy guiding style is inclusive, open and friendly. I design and research every tour myself – in fact, the research never ends.
The walking tours I offer are all on subjects I am genuinely interested in – each highlights a different facet of my personality. I am specifically interested in the changing face of our streets over time and how those changes have affected local communities and the social history of an area.
