The Jewish Vegetarian Society
Mon 4 September 2017, 14:00 – 16:00 BST
The Jewish Vegetarian Society (JVS) was founded in the 1960s and the movement’s history is a fascinating one. Starting in London it flourished and over time attracted members from across Europe, South Africa, Australia, the USA, South America and Israel. As well as social activities the JVS discussed many issues linked to health, animal welfare and the environment. London Metropolitan Archives holds the collection of the JVS quarterly magazine, ‘The Jewish Vegetarian’. This fascinating collection provides insights into the JVS, the importance of food to community and the promotion of new ideas. Come along and enjoy the talk and discussion.
