Event Summary
Come and join us for a powerful event where we understand the typical journey of a trauma patient from the moment of the traumatic incident that led to their injuries all the way through their rehabilitation journey as they rebuild their life.
In this event we follow Liam, a passenger in a car involved in a high-speed collision just outside Plymouth. Liam received emergency treatment in Derriford Hospital and was then transferred to Plym Neuro Rehabilitation Unit. His care then moved to the private sector and is being provided by a multidisciplinary team arranged through his case manager and personal injury solicitor.
Speakers for this event include an accident reconstruction expert, an emergency medicine consultant, a neuropsychologist as well as Headway Plymouth. Refreshments and a free buffet style lunch will be provided.
This is a Headway Plymouth event in collaboration with Enable Law.

Liam's Story
Liam in 2021 at the age of 23 was involved in a serious road traffic collision when the driver of the car he was a passenger in lost control at speed just outside of Plymouth. Liam sustained multiple injuries including fractures to his pelvis, femur, nasal bones, ankle, left lower leg and an acquired brain injury.
Liam was taken to Derriford Hospital for emergency treatment before being transferred to Plym Neuro Rehabilitation Unit for rehabilitation. His rehabilitation then moved to the private sector with a multidisciplinary team co-ordinated by a case manager.
The day will include hearing more about Liam's story and progress.
Confirmed speakers
Mark Crouch Mark is head of investigations at FCIR accident reconstruction experts. Prior to that Mark worked for the Metropolitan Police as a Forensic Collision Investigator. He will be explaining how the Police deal with the scene of a serious collision and how accident reconstruction helps piece together what happened.
Professor Tim Nutbeam Tim is a consultant in Emergency Medicine at Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust and Devon Air Ambulance and he will be explaining how the ambulance and A&E deal with managing a serious trauma patient in the immediate 24 hours.
Stephen Roundhill Stephen is a Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist and will be explaining the role of neuropsychology in the rehabilitation of someone with an acquired or traumatic brain injury.
Plymouth Neurophysio - Hear from the team at Plymouth Neurophysio about private physiotherapy and occupational therapy provision and the support they provide to Liam.
Westcountry Case Management - Hear about the role that a case manager plays in helping victims like Liam access rehabilitation and co-ordinating multi-disciplinary teams.
Headway Plymouth Craig Butler, CEO of Headway Plymouth will be talking about the extensive services that the charity offers to people with brain injury and the role of their hospital liaison worker.
