Course Outline

The course will have the underpinning theme that a number of skills and tools need to be learnt to be able to begin drawing. Throughout the course you will explore some of the following areas:

  • Texture

  • Perspective

  • Pattern and motif

Handouts and extra homework will be provided for those who wish to take it further in their own time.

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for everyone as no previous knowledge is required. It is ideal for parents of babies and toddlers as we provide a creche on-site.

We will provide all drawing materials however you can bring your own if you wish.

Complimentary refreshments provided.

Instructor

Saltaire based artist Ann Davies.

Ann went straight to art college from school and studied a foundation course in art at Salisbury College of Art in Wiltshire. Later she studied graphic design at Bradford College.

Ann has been teaching drawing classes for beginners throughout this year with very good results. She takes the approach that certain skills and tools can be learnt and then applied to give the artist confidence. All the skills require practice and commitment, however she also believes that drawing is fun and is always an encourager whatever the level of the student.

Ann regularly sells her work through galleries and in 2016 she had a piece of work accepted by the Royal Watercolour Society’s Contemporary exhibition. She has produced work for many clients in the past including WHSmith, Oxfam, Leeds Leisure Services, Eureka! The Children’s Museum and private commissions.

Currently Ann has an exhibition at Scampston walled garden in North Yorkshire called “Glasshouses of Yorkshire” celebrating the beauty of glasshouses, greenhouses and arcades across Yorkshire.

Ann is very excited about working with The Talent Tree Saltaire. She says that as a parent she can remember how she felt about not having the time to develop her skills or have a creative outlet. So she is keen to encourage Mums, Dads and anyone else to feel they have this opportunity.
