About this event

We are delighted to host the an evening with the Klaus Flugge Prize at Waterstones Piccadilly. Established in 2016, the Klaus Flugge Prize is awarded to the most promising and exciting newcomer to children’s book illustration. It honours publisher Klaus Flugge, founder of children’s publisher Andersen Press and a supremely influential figure in picture books. Past winners of the prize include Joseph Namara Hollis, Flavia Z. Drago, Eva Eland, Jessica Love and Kate Milner.

In advance of the shortlist announcement for the 2024 Klaus Flugge Prize award-winning author-illustrators Petr Horáĉek and Mariajo Ilustrajo will be in conversation with Julia Eccleshare, discussing the art of contemporary picture book illustration. Mariajo Ilustrajo won the award in 2023 and both she and Petr Horáĉek are judges on this year’s prize.

Bring your questions for Petr and Mariajo plus questions about new trends in picture book illustration and what characterises the enduring best in picture book art.
