The Lambeth Walk - art & entertainment south of the river

“Any time you’re Lambeth way

Any evening, any day,

You’ll find us all

Doin’ the Lambeth walk.”

Oi!  As the good old cockney Bill Snibson would have sung!  Things have changed since then.  For years people have passed through this part of London without stopping.  But it's making a comeback.  New galleries are popping up, the gay community is fleeing increasingly gentrified Soho to hit the clubs and pubs of Vauxhall.

This Lambeth Walk is a chance to explore a part of central London that has always been set apart; cast adrift by the river,  cheeky, proud, a place of alternative entertainments.

350 years ago it was home to the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens later it was birthplace to the circus and the music hall.  It was the home of Charlie Chaplin who walked the streets entranced by the vaudeville stars who lived here.

So join me down Lambeth way where......

“Ev’rything free and easy,

Do as darn well pleasey,

Why don’t you make your way there?

Go there, stay there”

Pre-booking is essential.

5* Tripadvisor Reviews for the first Lambeth Walk from

This is why I go on walks - to explore areas in London and uncover sights that I would not have come across on my own. Michael Duncan, guided us on a walk in his very own neighbourhood. He was both passionate, and knowledgeable as he showed us: not one but TWO art galleries, an amazing display of graffiti art, where Royal Doulton was manufactured, the Southbank Mosaics, and so much more. Highly recommended!

Went on the footprints of London tour, 'Lambeth Walk: Art and Entertainment south of the river' led by Michael Duncan. It was absolutely brilliant, I highly recommend. Michael really knew his stuff and the walk was just the right pace. He really brought Lambeth alive, seeing new and unexpected parts of the area!

From From sarahehld June 2017

I have taken multiple Footprints walking tours: The Lambeth Walk with Michael Duncan, Whitechapel with Sean Patterson, and Maritime Blackwall with Rob Smith. All the of the tours are superb - well researched and woven into a coherent walk covering their chosen area. The guides incorporate rich histories while also pointing out areas of interest from modern day London. I plan to continue to do as many Footprints walks as possible - I can't imagine there's a better walking tour company in London!

The walk starts at Vauxhall.  Please check travel arrangements on the day at Transport for London's Journey Planner site.
