The German critic Oscar Schmitz (1873-1931) wrote about English society in his 1914 essay Das Land Ohne Musik - The land without music. Organist and choir conductor Philip Norman FRCO asks whether this slur contains any truth. Norman is a skilled orator and has given talks on a wide range of musical topics. He is the retiring organist of St Mary's Lutheran church in King's Cross to which the dwindling congregation of St George's migrated when their historic Grade II listed church ceased to function as such.
