Abstract

In non-domestic commercial property portfolios, the diversity of ownership and management structures, heterogeneous nature of building structures and divergent energy demands of occupiers all combine to create a complex backdrop for energy measurement, management, comparison and reduction. British Land has been actively measuring and managing energy across its office portfolio since 2003. We are now seeing significant results.

About the speaker

Justin champions sustainability and customer service issues across British Land’s managed portfolio. He has been working in partnership with office occupiers on sustainability issues since 2005. He recently participated in the UK-Green Building Council group, which recommended to Government the mandatory introduction of DECs as a measure to simplify the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme. He also chaired a 2010 Better Building Partnership group, which developed a Green Building Management Toolkit for occupiers and building management teams.

About the UCL Energy Institute:

Founded in June 2009, the UCL Energy Institute (UCL-Energy) was established as UCL’s response to the global challenges of mitigating climate change and providing energy security in the 21st century. UCL-Energy, which sits within the Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment at UCL, brings together different perspectives, understandings and procedures in energy research, transcending the boundaries between academic disciplines. It coordinates multidisciplinary teams from across the University, with the aim of accelerating the transition to a globally sustainable energy system through world-class energy research, education and policy support. www.ucl.ac.uk/energy Follow on Twitter @ucl_energy
