GETTING INTO MUSEUMS

Dealers often have pieces in their stock that are museum-quality and are candidates for museum acquisition. But how best to communicate with the relevant institutions? Susan Moore, Associate Editor of Apollo leads a discussion with a museum curator and dealer. She discovers what curators look for in special objects, how they like to be kept apprised and what the acquisition process is usually like.

Panel Chair: Susan Moore, Associate Editor Apollo Magazine

Panellists: Tessa Murdoch, Victoria and Albert Museum; Bruce Boucher, Sir John Soane's Museum; Martin Levy, Blairman Antiques

BREXIT AND THE ART & ANTIQUES MARKET

LAPADA is an active member of the British Art Market Federation which is the primary body representing the interests of the trade to government. The Chairman of BAMF, Anthony Browne, will discuss the issues that are at the fore in the transition period and what the challenges and opportunities of Brexit may hold for the market.

WISDOM OF AGE VERSUS THE FRESHNESS OF YOUTH

The Young Guns initiative has shown how older mentors can help new dealers, but we believe that new and younger dealers also have much to teach those who have been established for a long time. This session brings together the generations in a swap meet of ideas on everything from how to source a steady supply of the right material and deciding on the best route to market to attracting new clients and meeting the daily demands of business.

Panel Chair: Ivan Macquisten, Writer, art market analyst, consultant (iMACQ)

ART & ANTIQUES AS PART OF A GLOBAL LUXURY MARKETPLACE

How does one position art and antiques as luxury goods and capitalise on expanding markets post-Brexit? Helen Brocklebank will discuss taking tips from luxury retailers on display, engagement, and marketing, using provenance and heritage as unique selling points.

Helen Brocklebank, CEO Walpole
