The Leeds Den Building Festival 2014 (Part 1)
Event Information
Description
A major new Leeds event (marking National Play Day) - for kids, young people and families from across the city and beyond to build GIANT dens together. Get creative and build your dream home, castle, spaceship, whatever!
Also features huge scrap robot building, in association with March of the Robots.
**STOP PRESS (5th Aug): tomorrow's weather forecast is looking very... unpredictable! If the weather is poor, come find us 2-3 minutes walk away from Victoria Gardens in the main hall at the LEEDS MUSEUM, overlooking Millennium Square. (Note though that the museum is a smaller venue, so we might be tight on space - apologies in advance if we can't accommodate everyone.)**
FREE, although donations welcome. All the KIT you need to create your dens will be provided, although you can bring your own stuff too.
Den building will take place between 11am-4pm. The den village will remain open for viewing and play between 4pm-6pm, during which time we’ll also present PRIZES for the best dens. Then you’re welcome to help us destroy the den village from 6pm…
REGISTRATION. All participants will need to sign in at these events. You can save time and jump the queue (and get a free gift!) on the day - if you bring a Breeze card. Click here to get your (free) Breeze Card, if you’ve not already got one. Pre-registration (see above) isn't essential, but it'll help us plan and mean we can send you event updates.
UNDER 18s. This event is open to all, but please note that it's not supervised childcare. Children under 12 must be supervised at all times by a responsible adult. Young people aged 12+ can participate without parents/carers, but will not be supervised and are free to come and go.
BUS FARES. Thanks to our Community First funding, we can refund bus tickets for participants who live in the City and Hunslet council ward (ie in Hunslet or Beeston Hill) – if possible, pre-register (see above) then present your bus tickets on the day.
PART 2 of the festival will be a major event on Sunday 28th September at the Tetley on the South Bank of the city centre. Participants are welcome to join one or both events. There will also be smaller linked events around the city through the summer. And/or why not build your own dens, at home, in your school, with your youth group, or elsewhere? Click here for a simple manual to get you started.
GET INVOLVED. Please help promote the event! Click here for downloadable poster. Find us on Facebook. Or look out for #LeedsDenFest on Twitter. Also, we’re recruiting a VOLUNTEER team to help run these two events - get in touch to find out more. Finally, if you have ideas and links to help us gather RESOURCES (especially big cardboard boxes) please let us know! Thanks.
SOME SMALL PRINT. We reserve the right to ask people to work in teams of up to eight… We can’t guarantee the opportunity to participate, if we become oversubscribed: get there early to be sure to take part… There’s a (slightly) limited number of bus fare refunds available for City and Hunslet residents, so please either register beforehand (see above), or get there early; also, we can only refund for up to 5 bus fares per household.
