Description

The Less Familiar - How artists work with buildings

A panel discussion exploring the ways in which artists choose to engage with the built environment, and how such work often reveals less tangible and associational elements that can help shift perceptions of architecture beyond the straight forwardly historical and stylistic.

Chaired by Catherine Croft, Director of The Twentieth Century Society, the event will bring together practicing artists, architects and historians with specialists from the fields of heritage conservation and property development to consider how artistic interventions might usefully feed into debates surrounding the valuing and preservation of buildings - with particular emphasis on sites and institutions experiencing the processes of change or redevelopment.

Speakers include:

  • Forster & Heighes, artists;
  • Annalisa Sonzogni, artist;
  • Alan Powers, architectural historian;
  • Dr Roger Bowdler, Director of Listing, Historic England;
  • Alan Read, Professor of Theatre, Director Performance Foundation, King's College
