About this event
Lecture - The library is not neutral: reading lists, academic publishing and decolonisation
About the speaker:
Caroline Ball is academic librarian for Business, Law and Social Sciences at the University of Derby and has also worked as a copyright and licensing advisor and a lecturer in publishing. She was awarded the UK Wikimedian of the Year award in 2020 and currently sits on the Wikimedia UK board of trustees. She is actively involved in the development of anti-racist pedagogy and curricula and in highlighting the importance of the library and its resources in supporting this work.
About the Lecture:
This session, from a librarian's perspective, will explore how development and enhancement of reading lists can contribute towards a university’s goals of decolonisation and reducing the student attainment gap. It will also explore some of the wider market forces that impact upon the publishing industry and dictate what is, and more importantly for this context, what is not available to the academic community.
