Event description
Join the Humberside Discovery Programme for a FREE two days of training in the centre of Hull.

About this Event

Hull, its docks and marinas, have for decades been known for their important position as a trading hub in and out of Eastern Britain. The tidal stretches of the River Hull in the city are no different. The Coastal and Intertidal Zone Archaeological Network will train you to record and monitor this coastal history in Hull. Discover the Humber’s important past and learn the skills archaeologists’ use to find your own historical interest and help the Humberside Discovery Programme record and present Hull's heritage. This free training will provide skills and knowledge for you to run your own programme to discover what you didn’t know about Hull and its trading history.

We hope to establish a group of committed volunteers to whom we can offer follow-up training sessions, workshops and survey days on different types of sites across Humberside.

This two day course will incorporate a series of practical sessions with guided walks of the area to help us record new-to-CITiZAN features in the city for our interactive, online map. You will get hands-on archaeological experience of recording techniques and learn how to add to the record of Hull’s past. Both days will include walking elements around the city area for up-to a 3 mile distance. While routes are flat and easily accessible good stout, waterproof footwear is strongly advisable.

The two days will be from 10am till 16pm with breaks for lunch (please bring a pack lunch or use local cafes/bars etc.). Tea/coffee/soft drinks etc to be provided. A full itinerary will be provided on signing up.

The course is FREE but places are limited to a maximum of 20 and booking is essential. Attendees must be +12 years.

Any questions and for further details please contact Sam Griffiths either by email at sgriffiths@mola.org.uk
