Event description
The Link Programme - bringing education and mental health professionals together to get children the help they need, when they need it.

About this Event

The Mental Health Services and Schools and Colleges Link Programme

Workshop 1 - September 16, 2020

Workshop 2 – November 6, 2020

These two free workshops will bring education and mental health professionals together from across Chelmsford to ensure children and young people get the mental health support they need, when they need it.

The Link Programme is designed to support staff, who are often best placed to recognise when a child is struggling, to spot when young people need help and to signpost them to specialist services, saving staff time and giving children more effective support.

It is part of a national initiative funded by the Department for Education, supported by NHS England and led by the Anna Freud Centre.

Feedback from a pilot programme with 255 schools and colleges was positive, with participants reporting increased satisfaction with working relationships between children’s mental health and education, better communication and joint working between education and mental health and improvements in timeliness and appropriateness of referrals. The Link Programme will now be rolled out to every school and college in England over four years.

By joining the workshops, which will run throughout 2020 and 2021, schools and colleges can also help influence the way future services are developed so they meet young people’s needs.

Health colleagues, mental health professionals and state-funded schools and colleges, (including alternative provision and special schools), are invited to take part. They can register a member of their senior leadership team and a second delegate who may have more of a pastoral role to attend the two workshops. It is vital the same representatives that attend the first workshop also attend the second workshop. Workshops are being run at locations across Mid and South Essex, Thurrock, Southend.

Spaces are allocated on a first come, first served basis. When registering for this event you will automatically be registered for the follow- up event listed above.

Free parking is available and lunch and refreshments are provided.

The workshops will include:

• An introduction to the CASCADE framework

• Group work and action planning

• Information about children and young people’s mental health

• Outcomes measures

• Resources and signposting

Further information about the Link Programme and evaluation of the pilot project is available on the Anne Freud website https://www.annafreud.org/what-we-do/schools-in-mind/our-work-with-schools/the-link-programme/
