The Lionesses Roar

An Evening with two brilliant Geordie England football stars: Christine Knox and Aran Embleton. Hosted by Jane Harker, co-producer of the hit play Wor Bella.

Jane will speak on how women's football developed and thrived in WW1, only to be criminally banned by the FA in 1921.

No longer banned in 1971, women reclaimed the sport. Christine Knox became the first Geordie Lioness of the new era. Playing for Wallsend Ladies, Whitley Bay Ladies and North Shields Ladies, Christine won ten England caps in the 1970s and 1980s.

Aran Embleton, the first millennial Geordie Lioness, gained four England caps and played for Blyth Spartans, Sunderland Ladies and Doncaster Belles in her illustrious career.

The incredible Lionesses of today stand on the shoulders of these two footballing unsung greats: pioneers of the sport who fought against hardships and prejudices to play the game they love. The event includes Q&As. An evening not to be missed!
