The Locker Conversations featuring Hand of Stabs
Thu 27 October 2016, 19:30 – 22:00 BST
Opera Activist and cross-disciplinary artist Tania Holland Williams has curated a series of musical conversations for Sittingbourne; The Locker Conversations.
For the third of this three-part series, The Locker Conversations presents Hand of Stabs; who BBC 6Music presenter Stuart Maconie describes as “Progressive Pagan Skiffle. It's a creepy and brilliant thing”
The Locker Conversations bring new and experimental music to Sittingbourne. At each event a special guest will present original works from their repertoire to the audience - be it sound art, folk music or improvised rhythm work. Members of the more classically orientated Locker Ensemble will also present a short programme that seeks to respond to the work of their guest, thereby creating a musical conversation which draws links between seemingly disparate genres.
But no Locker event would feel right without plenty of opportunities to hear from the audience. So visitors to the shows will also be invited to take part in the conversation at intervals throughout the performances; encouraging us to reflect on the supposed boundaries that exist within music and to experience new forms of music.
The Locker Conversations are a follow-on from Tania’s previous commission with Ideas Test; Davy Jones’ Locker, which brought music by living composers into people’s living rooms, introducing some very unfamiliar music into spaces that are intimate and comfortable.
Informal, intimate and occasionally irreverent, The Locker Conversations presents new music in close quarters. Bring your opinions.
Doors at 7.30pm, Performance starts at 8.00pm
