About this event

You’re invited to a unique ‘dinner’ party where conversation is the only course. THE LONG TABLE is both an open discussion forum and a performative gathering, inviting participation and observation alike. Take a seat and become a guest for a while—or be in the audience.

The Queer Up North Long Table is an opportunity to celebrate the first decade of one of the UK and Europe’s most groundbreaking LGBTQ+ arts festivals, founded in Manchester.

Devised and hosted by Lois Weaver, The Long Table involves a long table, some chairs, a paper tablecloth, pens, and you! There is an etiquette to be observed. You are welcome to join and scribble ideas and comments or to observe. It's okay to have quiet moments or even a bit of awkwardness. And there's always room for laughter. This unique format fosters inclusive, non-hierarchical conversation encouraging both community engagement and individual reflection.

Suitable for all aged 16+

Lois Weaver is an artist, activist, and academic and founding Board Member of Queer Up North. Lois is co-founder of the legendary New York performance company Split Britches.

A Long Table is a hybrid event format combining performance and discussion, where everyone is invited to join the conversation. Learn more via Split Britches and see the Long Table Etiquette guide.

Location: Social Space (ground floor), AVIVA Studios, home of Factory International. The Social Space and Cafe Bar are open until 9pm.
