About The Book:

In this courageous story of growing up in one of the poorest areas of Jamaica, Dr Ava Eagle Brown learnt the life lessons of perseverance and survival. From a very young age, Ava’s self-taught belief that she was destined for more than the community's recreational activities of sex, raising babies and going to the farm -gave her the courage to forge a very different path than the one expected of her.

Her story starts in a poor rural area of Jamaica, where the need to find food often won over school attendance. Her journey through her adolescent years was encased in the dark shadows of incest, homelessness, and sexual abuse.

Ava's life took an entirely different path when the event of being held and raped at gunpoint infant of her then 3-year-old daughter - finally led her to flee her home country to save her sanity. She describes it as being ejected from her OWN DNA.

Here are some facts about the flagship store:

Waterstones Piccadilly is Europe's largest bookshop offering a peerless selection of titles across every genre. Over eight miles of bookshelves...

Occupying a beautiful art deco building, formerly Simpsons' department store, in the heart of London's West End, Waterstones Piccadilly offers six huge floors of books with over 200,000 unique titles.

There is truly something to be found for even the most discerning of readers, from our flagship Fiction, Travel, History and Art sections or from across the wider branch. We are especially proud of our Children's section, modelled on a (Piccadilly) Circus theme and full of activities and events as well as the latest releases and old favourites.

Her resilience and love for her native country allowed her to see all her harsh and disappointing experiences as stepping stones to becoming a strong and self-reliant woman, one who is capable of helping our society to break the cycle of poverty and its effects. We welcome you to share in Ava’s journey through her book, The Mango Girl. You will experience her triumphs, setbacks, and trials. The Mango Girl will break your heart before it makes you smile. Be prepared for a rollercoaster ride that breaks hearts, evoke various emotions but will undoubtedly Motivate, Inspire, and Fuel a desire for change.
