Event description

Get your students on the case!

The Master Chef Murder iBeacon Murder Mystery half day training event is for teachers and students wishing to try out this exciting new resource for the classroom

All attendees must register in advance.

What is The Master Chef Murder?

The Master Chef Murder is an iPad app that provides teachers with a dynamic resource to engage students in a wide range of curriculum activities through gamificiation - ie solving the case!

All aspects of the murder mystery - the evidence, video interviews, images, interactive widgets and engaging puzzles are accessed in the app. The contents of the game are triggered in different locations by BlueTooth iBeacons that are supplied in the purchasable Murder Mystery Box. The game can be played in a single classroom, or as in the case of this training events the iBeacons are placed in different locations to be ... 'explored and investigated'...

Who should attend?

Teachers interested in engaging their students with a new resource that will enable them to develop literacy and numeracy skills, together with problem solving and collaborative work.

Students aged between 8 and 14 can also attend. NB Students must also be registered to give an accurate indication of numbers attending.

What age range of student is this resource suitable for?

Students between 8 and 14, although it has been used very successfully with older students.

Which areas of the curriculum are covered?

The Master Chef Murder focuses on:

  • Literacy skills
  • Numeracy skills
  • Project work
  • Problem Solving and logical reasoning
  • Team work

What resources are supplied with the Master Chef Murder?

The Master Chef Murder comes with a USB drive full of teaching resources, lesson plans and ideas, slides for presenting in class as well as resource files, PDFs, videos etc. Note: the projects are all different, focusing on different activities on the iPad that are transferable to other curriculum areas.

A free Murder Inc USB drive full of the teaching resources will be given to all teachers that attend, plus a 20% discount offered against the RRP of a Master Chef iBeacon Murder Mystery.

You will need to bring an iPad (not an iPad2!), and pre-install the free Master Chef Murder app. A short (one minute!) video is available here on setting up your iPad.

Headphones are a good idea to allow you to listen to the evidence on your iPad!

If you would like a PDF of the promotional poster to share the event at your school please email, alternatively the image is also pinned on his twitter account - @joe_moretti

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

Will iPads be supplied?

No. Attendees need to bring an iPad with the free Master Chef app installed.

How many students can I bring?

There is no limit (within reason) to the number students that you can bring, we nominally suggest a maximum of 20. You should note that they remain under your supervision whilst atteding the event.

I am concerned my iPad is too old, how can I check whether it is suitable?

iBeacons will work with any iPad from iPad 3 onward. However the more recent the model of iPad the better the experience! Any iPad from iPad Air onward will work perfectly with a high quality experience.
