Event description

Description

We’re delighted to be launching our new Masterclass Series of events, dedicated to the business elements of interior design. From marketing and pitching, to hiring and company culture, these events are designed to help Interior Designers, Architects and other Trade Buyers maximise their business potential.

The design industry boasts a huge number of small, medium and large business owners and contributes a huge amount to the economy (over £71bn in the UK alone) and this event seeks to recognise and celebrate the entrepreneurial side of interior design.

As a special launch event for the series, we will be running a half day event looking at what it takes to run a successful design business. During the afternoon we will zone in on three key elements to entrepreneurial success; inspiration, commercial viability and mentoring.

As well as delivering insight and top tips from industry experts, this event is a chance to network, share and develop ideas with other ambitious professionals in what can often be a fragmented and disconnected industry.

More information on the speakers:

Tim Mutton (Blacksheep)

Tim is the founder and CEO of Blacksheep, the award-winning, international and independent design agency. Winner of the Wave of Future Award US 2012 for hospitality design, Tim is considered a leading authority on the hospitality sector. He combines a passion for food and beverage design with in-depth sector knowledge of the practical, business and operational aspects of a business.

Melanie Goldsmith (Smith & Sinclair)

Melanie, co-founder of Smith & Sinclair, started the business in 2014 as a bi-product to a series of dating nights. With a background in theatre Melanie wanted to bring to life the feeling of 'play' in the dating nights through a range of products that positioned guests into a mindset of exploration, laughter and the unusual - Smith & Sinclair's range of Edible Cocktails were born. The business has been built up from the ground up, starting with a very small sum of personal funds and turned a profit in our first year of trading and now retail in high end establishments across the country. The brand has grown beyond the products, engaging customers and brands through experience retail which range from an Edible Gin Bar to an Adult Sweet Shop and soon a Flavour Gallery. As a growing start-up business Melanie has had to take on varied responsibilities managing her time and energy across company finances, sales pitches and business strategy. From her learnings and ever-growing business knowledge she now offers consultations with other brands helping them to innovate and develop their strategies for moving forward.

Aron Gelbard (Bloom & Wild)

Aron (a former management consultant) founded Bloom & Wild in 2013 along with his business partner Ben Stanway (former hedge fund partner). After an initial round of investment of £2.5m from VC firm MMC the business has gone from strength to strength and was named one of Britain’s 50 most innovative companies last year by Bloomberg.

Aneeqa Khan (eporta)

Having started out in Private Equity, Aneeqa then joined Zoopla as Head of Strategy and managed their IPO to achieve a £1bn exit, aged only 26. A year later, after noticing a huge industry need, she launched eporta; the world's first sourcing platform exclusively for trade. In the last 2 years she's grown the business to hold the largest global product inventory, and grown the team to more than 25. She was recently named one of the leading female entrepreneurs in the UK by The Times business supplement and one of the top 35 entrepreneurs under 35 by Management Today.
