The Master's Tools - Dismantling Racism
Date and time
If you're horrified by racism, feel out of depth, uncomfortable, overwhelmed or helpless - come along and learn to be actively anti-racist.
About this event
Brexit has brought a lot of people’s attention to racism that has always existed to a large extent, but is finally visible. People are more aware of racism as something that happens, but feel out of depth, uncomfortable, overwhelmed and helpless. If you’ve been feeling any of this, are horrified by racism but don’t know what to do to help, or where to start - this is it.
During the workshop, I touch on four main areas - race, racism, privilege and allyship. I gently, but necessarily, challenge assumptions, question conditioning and provide a space to have honest conversations. The workshop is designed to give people a space in which to explore their relationships to the topics above and work to be actively anti-racist.
(Anti-racism is a conscious and active process of identifying, challenging structures and behaviours that underpin and perpetuate systemic racism.)

Testimonials
“I loved the workshop, and I thought the structure and facilitation were great. I thought explanations of why you were doing it, and the ground rules were clear and helpful. My favourite part was the discussion around allyship and the scenarios which enabled us to explore lots of different issues and especially tackle the white saviour complex. The time went by so fast, and I definitely could have carried on for longer. Thank you for doing this work, for your willingness to engage with us all and for creating the opportunity for us all to do a bit more of the work. I know I will definitely keep on with this.”
“I thought I should work on anti-racism to be a “good white person”. Now I know why anti-racism is so important.”
“I enjoyed the way you delivered the workshop, the content and tone were both just right. I came away from the workshop having thought about things that my white privilege normally doesn’t require me to do. It made me feel really committed to doing this work. Having done the workshop and started to think much more deeply, I find I’m able to think about and really engage with some things I would have perhaps found very difficult or thought didn’t really concern me. It’s a huge eye opener in terms of white privilege and representations of racism in the media and on social media."
