Event description

Description

How much do we understand the origins of marriage in our own culture and how it has changed over time? How much less do we know about marriage in other cultures? This event, organised by Near Neighbours and Lancashire Forum of Faiths for Inter Faith week, is intended to explore the role and purpose of marriage in different faith traditions, looking at both the theological basis and the social practice. The format is for members of a panel, made up of people of different faiths, to give a brief outline of marriage in their own traditions, followed by informal discussion in groups around a set of questions. Further issues raised in these discussions will then be addressed by the panel, which will be chaired by John Chitham, the Bishop's chaplain.
