Event description

Description

We know you have a story in you. Unleash it.

Conjure a memory, recent or ancient, good or bad. Tell it to yourself, hone it, cut it, embellish it. Get on stage and tell it.

THE MEE CLUB

When ordinary people stand up and tell true tales about their lives, the honesty, humour, warmth, vulnerability and sadness in those stories makes a human connection unlike any other art form. Following in the footsteps of hot-ticket New York storytelling club The Moth, The Mee Club champions the art and craft of true-life storytelling, drawing people together through the telling of confessional tales.

'We all have stories. And the gulf that exists between us is that when we look at each other we might see faces, skin colour, gender, race or attitudes, but we don't see the stories. And once we hear them we realise that the things dividing us are often illusions, falsehoods: that the walls between us are no thicker than scenery.' Neil Gaiman (American Gods and Coraline author, and true life storyteller)

THE MEE CLUB WORKSHOP

Cat Weatherill, 'one of our great storytellers' (Michael Morpurgo, War Horse author), leads a fun and unpretentious workshop for anyone tempted by the idea of telling a true-tale but who does not know where to begin, looking at how to find your story, shape it, present it.

Sat 28 Apr 2018 10am - 4pm (£10)

THE MEE CLUB PERFORMANCE

There then follows an amazing night of live storytelling, which sees Cat, special guest teller Jane Campion Hoye and workshop participants share their brilliant true-tales - wonderful, poignant, inspiring, sometimes weird, often very funny - straight from the heart, live on stage. A truly empowering, and entertaining, experience.
