About this event

Get ready for a day of exploring the rugged gullies of Spellack. This in-person event is perfect for those looking for something a little higher octane.

On Sun Aug 10 , 2025, we will gather at Happy Valley Carpark, the starting point of our Meels, Spellack and Fofanny Loop Hike.

*Please car share as far as possible and please do not obstruct the road.

Join us for an epic mountain adventure to the summits of the Meels via a more adventurous and less trodden route, venturing off the beaten track onto trackless mountain terrain, getting to sample the stunning beauty Mournes and climbing Meelmore and Meel Beg, two of the Mournes iconic hills.

This hike is an amazing stand alone adventure but it also forms part of the No Ordinary Adventure Series.

We will start off at Happy Valley Carpark and hike along part of the Ulster way, until we veer off onto the mountain side and climb to the summit of Meelmore via a rocky gully that runs parallel to the Spellack outcrop. From there we climb down to the col between Meelmore and Bearnagh, and follow the trail around the base of Meelmore. Then we venture off trail again and climb to the col between Meelmore and Meelbeg, summit Meelbeg, before descending along the Mourne wall and following the base of Meelbeg back to our start location via Fofanny Dam.

This hike is intermediate level with regards to how technical the route is. Good fitness, a head for heights and sure footing is required. We will be venturing off trail and a short scramble will be required to gain the summit of Spellack ridgeline.
