Description

The 8 Week MBCT Programme to Free Yourself from Depression and Emotiomal Distress

Proven effective in clinical trials throughout the world.

"This is a treatment that has circled the globe for a reason - it works" Marsha Linehan, PhD, University of Washington

What is MBCT

MBCT (Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy) combines ancient wisdom meditation practices and 21st century science to help overcome depression, anxiety and stress by simply learning new ways to respond to your thoughts and feelings.

It takes the form of 8 weekly 2 hour classes, plus an all-day session.

Does it work?

The UK National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) has endorsed MBCT as an effective treatment for prevention of depression relapse.

Scientific research has shown a range of benefits associated with participation in MBCT courses including

  • Reduced stress
  • Enhanced capacity to manage anxiety
  • Sharpened attention & concentration
  • Deeper sense of calm & peace
  • Increased enthusiasm & energy levels
  • Improved mood regulation
  • Increased self confidence
  • Enhanced capacity for acceptance

What participants say about MBCT: “I feel a thousand times better than ever before. Like everyone else, I still get sad and anxious sometimes, but it happens much less frequently and I’m better equipped to deal with it”

Course dates, times & format

Dates: Saturday January 13th January – Saturday 10th March 2018.

Times: 10.15am to 12.15pm, apart from the 3rd March, when there will be a full day practice from 10am to 4pm.

There is a set of audio files and a course manual to accompany the programme, which you are encouraged to use to practise on your own once a day, six days a week. This forms an important part of the programme. In the classes, there is an opportunity to talk about your experiences with the practices and the obstacles that inevitably arise. An experienced mindfulness teacher will support you to find ways to deal with any difficulties skilfully and to gradually integrate the practice into your life in a way the works for you.

Trainers: Kara Woods and Tan Phuong, both experienced mindfulness teachers registered with the Mental Health Foundation and The UK Mindfulness Network. Kara and Tan both trained to teach MBCT and MBSR at Bangor University's Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice.

Cost: £300 Includes home practice audio files, The Mindful Way course book and home practice worksheets (retail price £15), 22 hours of face-to-face teaching and guidance and 9 weeks of teacher support outside of taught sessions.

Some concessions are available at £225 - please enquire at info@centrespace.org
