Description

The Mind's Release - Introduction to Buddhism and Meditation.

Six consecutive Tuesday evenings starting 1st May. 7.15-9.45pm.

“These words”, said Pingiya, “are the words of a man of wisdom. As I hear them I become more confident. This man is Sambuddha: he has opened the curtains and woken up. There is nothing barren there; his mind is clear and luminous. Everything accessible to knowledge is known to him, even the ultimate subtleties of awakening. There are no more questions for the doubtful who come to him: the teacher has answered them all. Yes, I shall go there. I shall go beyond change, I shall go beyond formations; I shall go beyond comparison. There are no more doubts. You may consider this as mind released.”

This 6 week course offers an overview of basic Buddhist concepts and principles and an exploration of two core meditation practices that bring about self-awareness, change and spiritual insight.

Each week we will examine the core principles of Buddhism and meditation and explore why these ancient practices are relevant to our lives today, helping us lead a fuller, richer, happier life. These topics will be explored through meditation, discussion and reflection with short exercises to do between sessions.

This course is suitable for newcomers to Buddhism and meditation, as well as those who want to take their practices deeper as classes will develop around people's own questions and experience.

Led by Amarapuspa and Sagarasila. Booking essential.

Concessions and Bursaries

To ensure our course are accessible to all, concessions are available to those not in full-time employment and on low incomes. For those who still cannot afford the concession rate, bursaries may be available in some circumstances. We would be happy to explore this with you if you live locally in South London and are not otherwise able to afford to attend the course. Contact us for bursary options.

Higher donation rate

For those on higher-incomes, or the finacially comfortable, we offer an additional optional 'generosity-rate'. This includes a full-price booking with additional donation which we use directly to provide low-cost bursary places on the course for those who cannot otherwise afford to attend. Please do consider giving at this rate if you have the means to do so.

Cancellation Policy

You may cancel your booking at anytime. Up until 48 hours before the start of the course a full refund will be provided. When courses are fully booked, due to the limited capacity of our courses, cancellations after this time will only be refunded if a replacement from the waiting list is confirmed prior to the start of the course. We therefore encourage you to let us know as soon as possible if you are unable to attend, as this will allow someone else to use your space and increase the chances of us providing you with a full refund.

Venue

Owing to a steep flight of stairs at The Brixton Pound Cafe, unfortunately this venue is not easily accessible for those with mobility issues and is not wheelchair friendly. For advice on finding Buddhist activities in London with accessable spaces, please contact us and we will be happy to help.

If you would like to arrive early for a drink or something to eat before the start of the course, our venue, the Brixton Pound Cafe, is a community run ‘pay-as-you-feel’ cafe. Normal opening times, Mon-Fri: 8.30am - 6pm, Sat: 9am - 6pm.
