Event description

Description

Join London Drawing Group as we embark on a day-workshop exploring the ever-changing face of portraiture.

Portraits, by nature, are intimate depictions of both the sitter and the artist, expressions of individual characters and inner lives. Through this workshop we will be exploring what makes the emotive, personal quality of a portrait, from the baroque to the present day, and how through our portraiture we can learn to express the individual personalities of our models.

Through a guided tour of a series of choice portraits housed in the National Portrait Gallery, as well as the many stunning marble busts in its vast colletion, we will be examining how portraiture has evolved through the ages and how, despite the advent of photography and film, the portrait still maintains such an integral place in contemporary artmaking.

Through a series of drawing exercises and techniques relating to the pieces in the gallery, you will be encouraged to explore the joy of portraiture and find your own personal relationship with this endlessly fascinating subject.
