The Moral Story

Witness statements within the ‘bawdy court’ records offer some of the most interesting insights into people’s day-to-day lives. Church courts dealt with moral matters and cases of sexual impropriety. Join us for a workshop on how to read and interpret these seventeenth and eighteenth century records. Covering most of Norfolk and Suffolk, deposition books offer a rich resource for family, local and social historians.

The session ties in with the British Museum’s travelling exhibition, Desire, Love and Identity on display at the Norfolk and Norwich Millennium Library from 8 June to 31 August 2019 and the launch of a major new project of the NRO’s charitable partner, the Norfolk Archives and Heritage Development Foundation.

Booking essential.
